The 63-year-old confessed in the middle of the process. The judgment has a signal effect for all further cum-ex proceedings – and should even be an issue in the Chancellery.

The Bonn Regional Court has sentenced a former manager of the MM Warburg Group to three years and six months in prison for tax evasion in two particularly serious cases. The court withdrew two months from the prison sentence because the proceedings had been delayed. The judges found it proven that the former managing director of a Warburg subsidiary was involved in so-called cum-ex deals. The high tax damage of more than 100 million euros was decisive for the sentencing. In his favor, the court took into account the late confession of the accused.
