Culture and leisure tips from the actress Xenia Tiling – Munich

It took me a while to warm up to Munich. On one of my first days in the new city, I sat in a beer garden on the Isar. The innkeeper was very upset about two raging children: “When at erna dahoam the Kinda a so umeinanda renna dates…”. I asked myself who Erna was – but I would come across this North German woman’s name again and again in the years to come. Now I know, and I’ve also grown fond of Munich and the grumpy Bavarians.

Monday: Art in Practice

“Image and Sound” is the name of the exhibition by Florian Süssmayr, Martin Fengel, Martin Wöhrl and Zsolt Zrinyi in the Künstlerhaus Marktoberdorf.

I have what is probably the best dentist in the world. You can look forward to an appointment weeks in advance. You don’t enter a boring practice, but simple rooms full of art. If there weren’t still treatment chairs lying around, one would wonder why one didn’t wear the little black dress and high heels. That dentist is also an interesting artist, together with three colleagues he is now exhibiting his works in the Künstlerhaus Marktoberdorf. I warmly recommend this “image and sound” show to everyone.

Tuesday: Day trip to Thalkirchen

Celebrity tips for Munich and the region: Cooking and eating are important things in the life of the actress. This also includes buying fresh groceries at weekly markets.

If I wasn’t an actress, I would definitely be a cook. I could spend all day sourcing and preparing groceries. At a small market in Gmund, Paolo reigns supreme every Friday, probably the best-stocked Italian in Upper Bavaria. Until recently there was also the South Tyrolean Kraal. I would travel a day for 100 grams of Coppa ham, a traditional Italian specialty made from pork neck. I have to now, because you can only find the stand at the weekly market in Thalkirchen. Blessed are those who live in Thalkirchen!

Wednesday: Tour around the Tegernsee

Today I don’t drive into the city, but stay at home – and that’s meanwhile the Tegernsee. The day starts with a quick lap on the Neureuth. This mountain has grown dear to me, so I would like to take the opportunity to ask the group without a finger, but with the greatest fervor, whether it would not be possible to put handkerchiefs, candy wrappers and other plastic stuff in the storage compartments of the functional jacket instead leaving them in the care of the forest. The fauna would also be very happy if their habitat were not covered with sound from speakers strapped to their backs. Later I cycle to the “summer house” in Waakirchen. You can always find something there. On the way back I stop by the goldsmith Kerwin: an enchanting gem!

Thursday: crime time on TV

Celebrity tips for Munich and the region: Marie Leuenberger plays in the "Passau thriller" a former Berlin commissioner.

Today at 8.15 p.m. the first “A Crime from Passau” is running. The very own, wonderful Marie Leuenberger plays a former Berlin commissioner who, due to special circumstances, steered her into witness protection in Passau. There she meets Michael Ostrowski, who plays a private detective who is as resourceful as he is twisted. Stefan Rudolf is also there. So you notice: This could be quite good… By the way, my character’s name is Hermine Grill, I really enjoyed working on this third part of the series.

Friday: childhood love in the cinema

Celebrity tips for Munich and the region: When Lady Di died in 1997, the world was cloudy for Xenia Tiling. Of course they watch the movie "spencer" starring Kristen Stewart.

A very deep and heartfelt love applies to Lady Diana – since my childhood. When she died in 1997, the world was gloomy. A short time later, the student exchange took me to Bordeaux via Paris, where I would have liked to pitch my tent on the Pont de l’Alma between candles and flowers. So it goes without saying that I’m going to watch the movie “Spencer” with Kristen Stewart in the title role. Otherwise, she’s not really my thing. Much more my case is Vanessa Kirby, who in turn plays Princess Margret in the series “The Crown”. She also stars in the Netflix film “Pieces of a Woman”: Don’t miss it!

Saturday: Book club for two

One of my dearest friends, the actress Mara Widmann – who can be seen at the Volks- und Metropoltheater and recently also in Zurich – always knows where the book bunny is headed. We’re a kind of miniature book club, where she dictates the literature, which I then read with great enthusiasm. Because she always hits the mark: I have no idea how she does it. Names like Annie Ernaux, Ottessa Moshfegh, Édouard Louis or Mercè Rodoreda would only be bohemian villages for me without them. Her latest recommendation actually already has a beard: Tom Wolfe’s “Purgatory of Vanities” was in her closet, I was allowed to take it with me. And once again I say: Thank you!

Sunday: Sleigh ride in the sauna

Celebrity tips for Munich and the region: There should still be enough snow on the mountains around Tegernsee in March for a toboggan run.

Today we go up the mountain by sled. We’re going to Kreuth, there should still be enough snow there. The tour to the Königsalm is short and not strenuous. And since the hut doesn’t open again until May, we look for a spot in the sun and have a snack there. It’s going down with karacho, only in my case it’s called a snail’s pace. The bathing bag is in the trunk, so we continue towards the lake sauna. The lake is currently one degree. Well then: into the floods! Sauna makes you hungry, so afterwards we go to Rottach to Franz in the Kirschner Stuben. In the dark, we set off for the Sutten with our ball-and-pinch chucks. A friend of ours has his telescope with him, the day ends with a look at the stars.

Born in Hamburg, Xenia Tiling completed her acting training in Berlin, at the famous Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts. In 2007 she came to the Munich Volkstheater, where she appeared in “The Threepenny Opera”, “Don Carlos” and “Kasimir and Karoline”. For several years she has also acted in films and series, in “Servus Baby” or “Der Beileecher”, in “Der Alte” or “Polizeiruf 110”. In the series “A Crime from Passau” she took on the role of Chief Inspector Grill.
