Anyone who wants to sort out everything that is happening in the CSU, of course, has to go back one more time. November 2017, National Assembly of the Junge Union in Erlangen. Around a hundred JU members were waiting in the foyer of the congress center for their man of hope: Markus Söder, then finance minister. The party youth held up signs that read: “MP Söder”. And: “The time is ripe.” At first Söder hesitated, then he stood up for a group photo. It was, if you will, Söder’s career coming out. The message was: Yes, I want to be Prime Minister! And the JU went to great lengths to push Söder’s career plan.
