It is the personnel decisions that are the focus on Wednesday, but Prime Minister Markus Söder also announces a few more things. In his capacity as CSU boss, he announced that a new basic program should be presented before the 2023 state elections. It is to be developed by a commission led by the two members of the state parliament, Gerhard Hopp from Cham and Martin Huber from Mühldorf.
“Society is changing a lot, especially in Bavaria,” said Söder on Wednesday. A basic program should “cover the Bavarian way of life” and “document the claim to leadership between old and new, modern and tradition”. In addition, it is important to re-establish and explain the Christian image of man in the C and to demonstrate a balance between cosmopolitanism and a bond of values.
The basic program is a challenge for young people, said Söder, which is why the two “smart young people” Hopp, 41, and Huber, 44, are entrusted with it. They stand in a long tradition, since 1946 the CSU has presented a total of seven policy programs, the last one so far in 2016. Markus Blume, who was appointed Minister of Science on Wednesday, headed that commission. Theo Waigel, Alois Glück and Manfred Weber were also responsible for the basic programme.
As Prime Minister, Söder also announced that he would set up a regulatory control council to promote de-bureaucratization. It will be headed by Walter Nussel, member of the state parliament, who has already been responsible for reducing bureaucracy as a representative, together with a deputy from the Free Voters.
