Young people like to rebel against their conservative parents, it has always been like that. And students who adhere to the Fridays for Future movement are more likely to be positioned on the left of the political spectrum. But even the CSU has been looking to the future for a long time in order to secure the next generation of party members – the Junge Union (JU) in Bavaria has around 20,000 members. Nicola Gehringer, 31, takes care of what will become of the CSU in the years and decades to come. She has been the state manager of the JU for four and a half years. This Monday she is to move up to the board at the district delegates’ meeting of the CSU in Sauerlach.
The new Bibergerin not only bears political responsibility in the administration, but is also active, and has been for almost exactly eight years as a municipal councilor in her home municipality and as a district councilor. From 2014 to May 2021 she was also district chair of the JU München Land before handing over this office to Jan Kämmerer from Unterschleißheim, who was ten years her junior, for reasons of age, so to speak: “You can join the JU from the age of 14, of course I have to start at the beginning 30 no longer shared the interests of the very young,” says Gehringer.
She is very much looking forward to “expanding my commitment,” she says, and describes her upcoming appointment to the board as a “further step”, although she immediately denies any ambitions for a career as a professional politician: “I don’t have to worry about that at all , because all the offices and posts in the district are occupied by fairly young CSU politicians, who will certainly not stop in the next 15 years. Nothing will be vacant anytime soon,” she says and laughs.

Member of the Bundestag Florian Hahn is one of Gehringer’s great supporters, for example he pushed for her appointment to the district board, which will be expanded to five deputies in the future. The Articles of Association provide that this post must be held by someone who is under the age of 35. It also applies to the management team that at least 40 percent of the board must be women. “I’m very pleased that they found a follow-up job for me after the JU, so to speak,” she says.
The board of directors is to be headed by the Putzbrunner Hahn even after the delegates’ meeting, from his previous deputies Marianne Hellhuber (Neuried), Maximilian Böltl (Kirchheim) and Stefan Kern (Brunnthal) remain in office, only Betina Mausel from Unterfoehringen stops, she is replaced by Karin Replaced Hobmeier from Ismaning.
In the next few years, Nicola Gehringer wants to work, among other things, to ensure that volunteer work in the district is strengthened again after Corona thinned out many structures here, as she says: “We have to bring people back together and create incentives for them to get involved. “
