Economics Minister Habeck wants to pave the way for CCS technology, in which carbon dioxide is captured and stored in the ground. Critics speak of a false solution that does more harm than good to the climate.
The turnaround was carefully planned. It was almost exactly a year ago that Robert Habeck set off for Norway, or more precisely: to Brevik. There, 150 kilometers south of Oslo, the Green Economics Minister visited a cement plant owned by the German company Heidelberg Materials. Carbon dioxide is to be captured there on a large scale and then stored under the sea. Habeck found this exemplary and gave his new course a slogan: “CO₂ would rather go into the earth than into the atmosphere.”
