Crystal Cabin Awards 2022: These innovations will make us fly more comfortably tomorrow

After three years, the Crystal Cabin Awards 2022 could again be presented in a face-to-face event to honor outstanding innovations in the field of aircraft cabins. The expert jury selected 24 ideas in eight categories for the final round. The winners were announced at an exclusive awards ceremony at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg.

The awards, which have been presented for the 15th time, honor ideas from aircraft manufacturers, suppliers, airlines and university students that can improve flying in the near future and make it even safer.

Among the winners of the prize for cabin innovations Crystal Cabins Awards 2022 are owned by the US companies Teague and Nordam, who with “Elivate” have developed a concept for a more transparent interior design with natural materials and more lightness without having to reduce the number of seats.

The improvement in safety was also recognized. For example, the French technology group Safran has developed a freight container that can contain fires caused by lithium-ion batteries for up to six hours if the batteries are stowed in this container in the aircraft hold.

On the following pages of the photo series, we present the winning ideas and products in all eight categories. The innovations give a foretaste of what passengers could soon encounter on the plane.
