Crushing defeat: 1:5 in Frankfurt – FC Bayern completely out of control

As of: December 9th, 2023 5:49 p.m

Bayern Munich has embarrassed itself to the bone in the Bundesliga and missed out on reaching the top of the table.

In the 1:5 (1:3) draw at Eintracht Frankfurt, coach Thomas Tuchel’s team delivered a frightening performance and deservedly suffered their first defeat of the season. A week after the cancellation of the league game against Union Berlin, the indisposed Munich team were taken by surprise by the Hessians in a similar way to the 5-1 disgrace in November 2019, which cost the then Bayern coach Niko Kovac his job. Bayern failed to score more than one goal through Joshua Kimmich (44th), leaders Bayer Leverkusen can extend their lead in the title race on Sunday.

Furious Frankfurters

Omar Marmoush (12th), Junior Dina Ebimbe (31st/50th), Hugo Larsson (36th) and Ansgar Knauff (60th, according to video evidence) scored for the furious Frankfurters, who met in the cup at 1. FC Saarbrücken had embarrassed (0:2). After four competitive defeats in a row, the strong SGE stopped the downward trend. Bayern’s most recent competitive game was ten days ago. After the Union game was canceled, it was important to “maintain tension,” said Tuchel: “We didn’t want anyone to fall asleep.”

And yet Bayern seemed anything but alert in the early stages. The record champions made a number of mistakes, acted far too slowly – and were immediately punished by Frankfurt’s furious start. Marmoush scored after Fares Chaibi hit the crossbar, and FCB defender Noussair Mazraoui looked extremely bad.

Bavaria is falling apart

In the middle of the first half, the Munich team calmed down the game for a short time and finished it off with goal scorer Harry Kane (25th). After that, however, Bayern literally fell apart. The defense was completely overwhelmed, even goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was unhappy. First Dina Ebimbe poked the ball past Neuer into the goal, then Dayot Upamecano let the young Swede Larsson outdance him for Eintracht’s third goal. Thanks to Kimmich’s flick into the corner, Munich at least stayed in the game at halftime.

Tuchel made a substitution and brought on Konrad Laimer and Raphael Guerreiro – but nothing changed at first. Instead, Upamecano misused the ball and Dina Ebimbe completed the next perfect counterattack. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting missed the chance to connect (55th). Tuchel sat on the bench and hid under his hood when Knauff’s goal was awarded according to video evidence. Thomas Müller came into the game, Jamal Musiala celebrated his comeback after an injury break – but Eintracht remained in control.
