Cruelty to Animals: Emaciated Lions Rescued from ‘Horror Zoo’

You are literally just skin and bones. Video footage from a zoo in Nigeria shows shocking images. This captive lion is severely emaciated, the animal’s skeleton is clearly visible under its fur.
The recording was made by the German NGO “Wild at Life eV”. The animal welfare organization has rescued two lions from a zoo in the West African country. A concerned visitor had notified the organization. A spokesman described the facility as a “horror zoo” and called the animals “walking skeletons”.
Chief Conservation Officer Aslihan Gedik and her team provided the animals with emergency food on site and took care of the medical care of the emaciated lions.
Wild at Life works to curb and stop the illegal wildlife trade and rescue abused animals from zoos.
Last year, the organization rescued neglected lions in Burkina Faso and Nigeria. At that time, the animal rights activists showed similarly emaciated animals.
Aslihan Gedik said: “Our main goal is to close all lion breeding farms once and for all. The wild animals must be kept in the wild.”
