The investigator Vera Lanz from Munich comes to the Spree, the police officer Robert Heffler from Berlin comes to the Isar. They investigate a criminal case together.

The two popular Friday thrillers “Beyond the Spree” with Jürgen Vogel and “Die Chefin” with Katharina Böhm will investigate a case together in a ZDF crime special.

“The complex criminal case involving several murder victims takes place in two cities, but within a pharmaceutical company,” said a ZDF spokesman for the German Press Agency. The broadcast of this so-called series crossover is planned for winter 2024/25.

Filming is still underway. According to the script, Munich investigator Vera Lanz (Katharina Böhm) and her colleague Paul Böhmer (Jürgen Tonkel) first travel to Berlin for the case. A week later, the audience sees how the police officers Robert Heffler (Jürgen Vogel) and Mavi Neumann (Aybi Era) come from Berlin-Köpenick to the Isar. This “crossover” is intended to guide crime fans from the fourth season of “Beyond the Spree” to the 15th season of “Boss”. The two episodes of the special are each an hour long.

Jürgen Vogel: “exciting case”

Directed by Christoph Ischinger based on the script by Etienne Heimann (“Beyond the Spree”) and Alexander Costea based on the script by Peter Kocyla (“The Boss”). Jürgen Vogel said about the special operation: “A very exciting case that takes place in Berlin and Munich and means that two very different teams of investigators have to work together, which is great fun.”

According to ZDF’s quote, Katharina Böhm is also very enthusiastic about the matter: “After our Prague special in 2017, it’s a lot of fun to solve a case beyond the borders of Munich again. Especially with such great colleagues as Jürgen Vogel , Aybi Era and her team. We immediately had a very warm atmosphere on set.”

However, the broadcast is still about a year in the future. ZDF is currently showing the third season of “Beyond the Spree” before “Die Chefin” takes over the prominent time slot on Friday at 8:15 p.m. on November 24th this year until February 2024. Each episode is available a week in advance in the ZDFmediathek.
