Criticism of Wieler is intended to distract from government weaknesses – opinion

The dispute over the RKI boss shows that the coalition parties cannot be satisfied with their pandemic policy. The FDP in particular sees a need to improve its balance sheet.

The Lothar Wieler case is – if at all – a Karl Lauterbach case. At the end of December, Wieler published a paper from his Robert Koch Institute with drastic recommendations for combating the pandemic, just hours before a conference between the Federal Chancellor and the Prime Minister. Lauterbach was surprised by this and announced that it would optimize coordination between the Ministry of Health and the RKI. A month later, Wieler shortened the recovered status, and again Lauterbach had to admit that he was surprised. Optimization? none. Measured against conventional political criteria, one says: the minister does not have his house under control.
