Probably the man from Frankfurt should crime scene to the book fair, because a young author has written a blatant novel and after the book presentation she is dead.
Looks like suicide, but it’s not. In general, this principle dominates – looks like, but isn’t – the whole episode “Luna eats or dies”. From a certain point on, that doesn’t make it incredibly exciting, but rather a case of drafts from the many rushing by. New phrases (kidnapping, blackmail, miscarriage) and people (publishers, gardeners) are constantly being added, who briefly play a presumably important role and are briefly lost sight of. And then, yes, then the two inspectors Janneke (Margarita Broich) and Brix (Wolfram Koch) sit back at their desk, where they stick their noses into the young author’s book and look for clues to investigate the crime. And immediately come up with another great idea of what it could have been like, which then leads to a lot of flashbacks. In terms of crime, that’s so mean. As a plea for reading while you work, very, very great!
What is actually being told here is a classic crime scene milieu story
In “Luna eats or dies” (book by Johanna Thalmann and Katharina Bischof, who also directed) characters often remain so flat that they could fit between the pages of the book as a note. In order to tell the many, actually interesting people, the story would probably have had to be filmed as a series, maybe that would have been very exciting. Even as the book market satire, which can be heard here and there, the film is not consistent enough. Nevertheless, the whole thing develops a certain emotional impact. This is mainly due to the young actresses Jana McKinnon and Lena Urzendowsky, who already starred in the Amazon series We children from Bahnhof Zoo stood in front of the camera.
McKinnon is Luise in this crime scene, the socially committed young author from the academic household, who writes about the lack of opportunities and ice-cold apartments in her novel. Urzendowsky plays Nellie, who experiences what Luise writes about in her novel “Luna eats or dies”. What is actually told here in several mirror refractions is a classic one crime scene-Milieustory.
It is very nice how Ms. Janneke opens the novel in Brix’s car, eats the crumbly biscuit provided by the publisher and immediately reads the end – nobody dies.
