Crisis in the US media: No rescue from billionaires – media

Numerous US media outlets are laying off journalists, including the Los Angeles Times, which is owned by billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong. It seems that even visionaries are at a loss.

It was an interesting debate at the CES tech trade fair in Las Vegas in early January. The magazine Variety invites you every year and is also about making money in the media and entertainment industry. One panel was called “The Future of the Industry”, and it wasn’t so interesting where exactly the guests located the difficulties in making money, but rather who the clear star was: Catherine Halaby, head of entertainment at Tiktok. It was as if the other panelists, a creator of numerous TV shows, the head of NBC Universal Telemundo or a representative from Disney, were all giving Halaby their paw. VarietyEditor-in-Chief Cynthia Littleton said of Tiktok: “It’s not an app for dance videos, but an entertainment center and news platform for young people.”
