During a visit to the concentration camp memorial, two men from Finland gave a Hitler salute and took a photo. Criminal proceedings have been initiated.
Two tourists from Finland showed the Nazi salute in front of the Dachau concentration camp memorial. As the police announced on Monday, they photographed each other with their cell phones.
The police were reportedly made aware of the incident by witnesses. A 50 and a 52 year old visitor from Finland finally admitted on Sunday that they had shown the Hitler salute and meant it as a joke. A third man who was there took photos of the other two, it was said.
According to the police, the men said they did not know that the Hitler salute was forbidden in Germany. “But they might have got the idea that this is not welcome in Germany,” said a spokesman. All three men were banned from visiting the memorial for life. In addition, criminal proceedings were initiated.
