Criminal Marc Dutroux on TikTok, how is this possible?

Videos of convicted pedophile Marc Dutroux have been posted on the TikTok social network. These images, filmed illegally inside the prison of Marcelle, and without the knowledge of the prisoner, accumulate hundreds of thousands of views on the social network. How is this possible, when the serial killer has not only been in prison in Belgium for 24 years, an establishment in which cell phones are prohibited, but he is in solitary confinement, separated from others? Mikaël Libert, journalist at 20 minutes in Lille, conducted the investigation. He recounts in this episode of “ Wait a minute ! », our news podcast.

A desire to monetize these videos?

In these images, Marc Dutroux, sentenced to life imprisonment for five murders and for child abduction, kidnapping and rape with torture, is insulted by detainees. He also does slides on the icy ground of a yard, or even stretches. On another video, he confides in one of them, behind the bars of his cell. Filmed without his knowledge, the detainee is keen on his “obsessive” speech, according to Bruno Dayez, Marc Dutroux’s lawyer. Contacted, this lawyer points out that his client was filmed in defiance of his image rights.

“For the lawyer, detainees tried to make money by shooting these videos of Marc Dutroux, and trying to sell them, reports Mikaël Libert in this podcast. And why do they appear a year, a year and a half after being recorded? Because one of the inmates who filmed Marc Dutroux has since been released from prison.

The circulation of telephones in prison

As the journalist recalls in this interview, despite all the security measures, the Belgian prison services cannot prevent the circulation of mobile phones in prisons. A flaw that allowed at least two inmates of the Nivelles prison, south of Brussels, to film Marc Dutroux several times during his walks.

What does Marc Dutroux say to at least one inmate? Why does he hold, according to his lawyer, an “obsessive” speech? Why are these remarks detrimental to a possible release from prison of the detainee? Listen to all of Mikaël Libert’s answers in this interview, above.
