According to Russian information, Ukrainian bullets hit a shipyard in the annexed Crimea. 24 people were injured and two ships were damaged. Russia, in turn, attacked the Ukrainian Danube port of Izmail again.

A shipyard was hit in Ukrainian attacks on the port city of Sevastopol on the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula. According to Russian information, 24 people were injured, four of them seriously. Two warships that were in the shipyard for repairs were damaged.

“Two ships under repair suffered damage as a result of hits from enemy cruise missiles,” the Russian Defense Ministry said. The Reuters news agency quotes Andriy Yussov from Ukrainian military intelligence, according to which the damaged ships are said to be a large Russian landing ship and a submarine.

Cruise missiles and sea drones

A total of ten cruise missiles were fired at the area around the Ordzhonikidze shipyard, seven of which were shot down, according to the military. Three sea drones that were also said to have been involved in the attack were also neutralized. A fire broke out in the shipyard during the attack. Flames and smoke could be seen in images that the Moscow-appointed governor of the port city of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvoshayev, distributed via Telegram. The information cannot be independently verified.

Hatched: territories occupied by Russia, as of September 12, 2023

Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula in 2014. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it has been the target of repeated attacks, which have intensified recently. Kiev had repeatedly announced that it wanted to retake Crimea. The port of Sevastopol is home to the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

Seven injured in attack on Izmail

According to Ukrainian information, Russia again attacked the Danube port of Izmail in the Odessa region with drones during the night. The attorney general’s office said seven people were injured – six truck drivers and a resident.

In addition, “damage to the port and other civil infrastructure was found,” regional governor Oleg Kiper said on Telegram. Rescue workers are on site to put out the fires caused by the impact. The governor had previously urged people in Izmail to stay in a safe place until the air alert ends.

According to the Ukrainian military, 32 Iranian Shahed drones were shot down in the attack. As the armed forces of southern Ukraine later announced on Telegram, the attack on the Odessa region lasted four and a half hours. It was said that the drones had targeted “civil infrastructure on the Danube.” The port of Izmail is one of Ukraine’s most important grain export ports.
