Until recently, the three young people went to school together. Now a 15-year-old girl is dead – two classmates are suspected. What happened in Salzgitter?

After the violent death of a 15-year-old in Salzgitter, the investigators hope that the results of the autopsy expected on Thursday will provide further insight into the course of events.

Two classmates are suspicious. The public prosecutor’s office in Braunschweig assumes that the two 13 and 14-year-old teenagers killed the girl on Sunday.

Officials discovered the 15-year-old’s body on Tuesday in a park in Salzgitter-Fredenberg. She had been missing since Sunday. On Wednesday, the prosecutors then informed about the suspicion of murder. An arrest warrant for murder was requested for the 14-year-old, but the 13-year-old could not be arrested because he was not a criminal.

The public prosecutor’s office assumes a murder for base motives, as spokesman for the authorities Hans Christian Wolters said. Initially, there was no evidence of a sexual offence. The motive has not yet been finally clarified, but according to initial findings it is “in the personal sphere”.

The investigators initially held back with further information. When asked how the two suspects came into focus so quickly, the public prosecutor did not want to comment. The search for clues at the site and witness interviews continued on Wednesday. Decisions about how to deal with the 13-year-old were not known until Wednesday evening.
