On the same day, two men are killed in North Rhine-Westphalia – in Cologne and in Recklinghausen. A connection is not apparent. The police investigation is in full swing.
There were two violent incidents in Recklinghausen and Cologne on the same day Men lost their lives. In both cases, police were able to quickly arrest suspects. Arrest warrants should be applied for against the men on Sunday, police spokesmen in both cities confirmed.
The background to both crimes and the motives are still unclear. In Recklinghausen and Cologne, intensive investigations took place over the weekend – including a careful examination of the crime scene.
Cologne: Police set up murder squad
In Cologne, a jogger found a 19-year-old with bleeding injuries to his upper body in a driveway in the Rodenkirchen district of Cologne on Saturday morning around 6:45 a.m. and called the emergency number. Resuscitation measures by the rescue workers were in vain. The man died in the driveway.
Initial investigations into the 19-year-old’s death led the officers to track down a suspect, as the police and public prosecutor’s office announced.
The 23-year-old suspect was overpowered by special forces in his apartment in Cologne-Rondorf early Saturday evening. The police set up a murder squad. Witnesses are asked to come forward. The investigators assume it was a homicide. The victim’s body is to be autopsied.
Recklinghausen: victim with stab wound
In Recklinghausen, paramedics noticed a seriously injured person in front of a building in the König-Ludwig district on Saturday afternoon, as the police and public prosecutor announced. The 31-year-old, who traveled from the Netherlands, died of a stab wound despite receiving emergency medical treatment.
A 30-year-old man later turned himself in at a police station and was arrested. The crime scene was cordoned off. On Saturday evening, special forces also arrested a 28-year-old and a 54-year-old there. The search for clues and investigative work at the crime scene continued throughout Sunday, said a spokesman.
