“Tatort” is the flagship of German television. The creators of the crime series have always shown a desire for innovations.

With the creators of the ARD crime series “Tatort” is obviously a lot going on right now. “I can reveal that we are working on new ideas for teams that viewers can be excited about,” said ARD fiction coordinator Jörg Schönenborn of the program magazine “TV Digital” in an interview.

“We have a lively exchange between the colleagues who work at the ‘crime scene’, what is good or very good and what new things could be tried out,” continued Schönenborn. “This also relates to considerations of winning great, previously lesser-known actors and actresses as new investigators who have not previously been associated with the ‘crime scene’.”

The ARD manager also spoke about the topics of the “Tatort” season 2023/24: “Some topics of the next few months are modern agriculture and EU subsidies, a murder in the supplier environment or the hunt for a treasure in the Palatinate. Also murder out of passion. And at the latest Murot ‘crime scene’ in the fall, Ulrich Tukur embarks on a spectacular search for happiness.” Special “event thrillers” are not planned this time.

Schönenborn said of the slightly declining “Tatort” ratings compared to the previous year: “We have to learn to weigh success differently. Of course, linear television usage is declining overall, and ‘Tatort’ is also affected. The market shares of ‘Tatort’ are still high in relation.” Even among younger people (20-49 years), more people decided to watch the “crime scene” in the first half of the year than last year.

In addition: “The number of views in the ARD media library is also very good at an average of one million per episode. So we have to look at the total: what do people use in the media library, what is linear. The quota alone will not be the only one in the future be the standard.” Because of the various distribution channels, the “crime scene” did not lose audience, even gained among the younger ones.
