To communicate, they use their bodies: their hands, arms, head and upper body, but also their mouth and facial expressions. Deaf and hearing-impaired people can communicate with each other and with hearing people using sign language. Around 250,000 people, including around 80,000 who are deaf, speak German Sign Language, or DGS for short.
