In Herten in the Ruhr area, police officers find the bodies of a woman and her two daughters. An autopsy will determine how they died. The children’s father is arrested.

Police found a mother and her two children dead in her apartment in Herten. After the discovery of the three bodies in the Ruhr area city, according to the public prosecutor, there are still many unanswered questions.

The bodies of the 37-year-old and the two five- and eight-year-old girls have been autopsied since the morning, as a spokesman for the Bochum public prosecutor said. The investigation initially continued in the afternoon. He could not yet provide any information on the further circumstances of the death of the three people, the spokesman said.

As the Recklinghausen police and the Bochum public prosecutor announced on Wednesday, the 35-year-old partner and father was not in the apartment during the operation on Tuesday evening. Police officers arrested him “after intensive search measures” in Marl early in the morning. It will be checked whether he is responsible for the crime. A homicide detective is investigating.

Any help comes too late

An acquaintance had informed the police because she could not reach the Turkish family. Police then drove to the address and found the dead. The fire brigade came to the scene with several ambulances, but could no longer help. Heavily armed police officers searched the apartment building. Throughout the night, officers in white hazmat suits secured evidence at the crime scene. The bodies were taken away early in the morning.

The police sealed the doors of the ground floor apartment. According to information from neighbors, the family had only recently moved into the house on the busy thoroughfare.
