Sweden has been fighting organized crime for years. Police estimate thousands have connections to criminal networks.

In A man has been shot in Stockholm. Rescue workers were no longer able to help the victim, aged between 20 and 30, in the Skärholmen district in the south of the Swedish capital, the Aftonbladet newspaper reported, citing the police. A man was arrested on suspicion of murder. The crime is probably related to rampant gang crime.

During house searches in the area, several people were arrested for other crimes that had nothing to do with the shooting on Friday evening. The authority initially did not provide any further information.

Sweden, with around eleven million inhabitants, has been struggling for several years with criminal gangs that finance themselves primarily through drug trafficking and fraud. According to police estimates, more than 60,000 people have connections to criminal gangs. Of these, around 14,000 are active in criminal networks. Because of the gang conflicts, fatal shootings and explosive attacks occur again and again. It is not uncommon for bystanders to be shot.
