In May, shots were fired at the Mercedes factory in Sindelfingen – two men died. They were the superiors of a 53-year-old who is now on trial. The motive: completely unclear. Does the process shed light on the matter?

Six months after the fatal shooting of two people at the Mercedes factory in Sindelfingen near Stuttgart, the Murder trial against the suspected shooter began with a large crowd and high security precautions. The then 53-year-old defendant is said to have shot two Turkish compatriots during the early shift in a production hall last May.

The relatives and colleagues of the two victims also expect answers from the trial before the regional court in Stuttgart. At the start, some co-plaintiffs wore black T-shirts with a portrait of one of the victims. The motive for the bloody crime is still completely unclear. Investigators had not ruled out a political dispute. The defendant’s defense attorney also wants to read out a statement later on his client’s behalf.

The alleged perpetrator and the victims were employed by the same logistics company on the factory premises. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the man had “intentionally” and “treacherously killed his two superiors, aged 44 and 45, at close range using a firearm.” A verdict is not expected for two months at the earliest.
