At a wedding party in Hagen, a dispute escalates – there is a fight, then a man drives a car into a group. He is now due to appear before a magistrate for attempted murder.

In an argument at a wedding party in Hagen, a 39-year-old is said to have Driving a car into a group of guests.

The man was arrested and will be brought before a magistrate today, said a spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office. An arrest warrant for attempted murder is being applied for. As the police and prosecutors announced, the driver and five other wedding guests were slightly injured.

The driver also rammed the car into a parked car that was standing by the group of people, a police spokesman said. This slowed down the collision with the people. Initially, the police had assumed a total of five injuries.

Disputes among the guests escalated into a brawl

As the authorities further announced, a dispute among the guests at the celebration late Thursday evening initially escalated into a brawl. The 39-year-old then got behind the wheel of a car and drove into the arguing group. The brawl continued after that. The police have requested support from surrounding authorities, and service dogs have also been used.

According to the police and the public prosecutor, it was initially unclear how many people had taken part in the brawl and what the background to the argument was. Two other men were taken into custody overnight.

The party took place in an event hall in the district of Haspe. A total of around 60 guests attended the celebration, the police spokesman said. The police have set up a homicide squad.
