Faeser on cyber attacks: We’ve had “good luck” so far

The number of cyber attacks – or at least attempts at them – has increased significantly in recent months. According to Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, Germany must prepare well for this.
According to Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD), the danger of cyber attacks has increased significantly since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Weak points in Germany are constantly being scanned, Faeser said on Monday during a visit to the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) in Bonn.
“It has simply increased massively since Putin’s war of aggression, so that we simply notice increased cyber activity that we have to counteract,” said Faeser. “So far, I think we’ve been very lucky not to have been directly targeted by another country.”
In times of crisis, the state in particular must be fully capable of acting and working at all times. The BSI bundles excellent expertise in this field and should therefore be expanded into a central office in the federal-state relationship.
In addition to the IT situation center of the BSI, Faeser also visited the national cyber defense center. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the Federal Criminal Police Office, the Federal Intelligence Service, the Federal Police and the Federal Office for the Military Counterintelligence Service and the Bundeswehr Cyber and Information Space Command exchange information there.
