Dispute between members of two extended families: There were injuries. According to the police, a large number of emergency services arrived.

A dispute between two extended families in Nienburg has escalated into a brawl with dozens of participants. A 28-year-old man is said to have fired a stun gun and injured a person in the eye area, the police said early Sunday morning.

The alleged shooter was identified and temporarily taken into custody, it was later said. A total of four people were seriously injured, all of them were taken to the hospital. Other people were slightly injured, how many was initially unclear.

Aggressive mood

The trigger for the argument, in which, according to the police, 30 to 40 people were involved early on Saturday evening, is said to have been a “long-simmering dispute” between the two families. Initially, there were no further details. According to the police, a large number of emergency services arrived.

When the emergency services arrived, the atmosphere between those involved was aggressive. However, it was initially possible to calm the situation down, said the police spokeswoman. Around 9:00 p.m., the mood became more aggressive again – this time towards the police officers. Stones were thrown and pepper spray was sprayed. The situation is now under control, the spokeswoman said late Saturday evening. The police were still on site with many forces during the night, it was said.
