After a dispute between a man and a woman, who were probably once a couple, the 36-year-old mother of two small children is dead. The background to the crime is still unclear.

After a homicide in Cologne-Nippes, the public prosecutor’s office applied for an arrest warrant against a 41-year-old man on Tuesday on strong suspicion of manslaughter.

The police found a dead woman in an apartment on Easter Monday after an argument. The 36-year-old had stab wounds to her upper body, a spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday. She leaves behind two children, four and five years old.

The background and motive for the crime are still unclear. According to the findings, the 41-year-old may be the father of the children. The man and the victim were probably once a couple, the spokesman said. They might have split up then. These are Syrian nationals who have lived in Germany for at least five years.

The 41-year-old called the emergency number himself and then let the police arrest him without resistance. Neighbors heard the argument and called the police.
