A toddler has to go to the intensive care unit with mercury in his blood. The father has now surprisingly confessed to the crime, but contradicted any intention to kill.

A father accused of attempted murder has admitted to his young daughter before the Hanover regional court Having injected mercury. But he did not intend to kill the one-and-a-half-year-old girl, said the 30-year-old, according to a court spokeswoman.

Rather, the crime was directed against the child’s mother, with whom he was having a separation dispute. The partial confession came as a surprise, said the spokeswoman. Two more dates are scheduled for the process that started at the beginning of February. At the start, the man denied attempting murder.

Also charged is a 34-year-old who was the 30-year-old’s partner at the time of the crime. The geriatric nurse and the paramedic are accused of joint attempted murder. The woman also denied the crime at the start of the trial. On July 24th, both of them are said to have injected mercury into the girl’s left foot and right ankle using a cannula. That afternoon, the father was allowed to bring the child to him for an afternoon as part of the visitation rights. The child’s life was in danger, spent a lot of time in the intensive care unit and is still suffering from the health consequences today.
