Criminal trial against Maddie suspect starts in February

A German has been in the spotlight for several years – investigators have suspected murder against him in the Madeleine McCann case. Now the 46-year-old will soon have to go to court for other serious allegations.

The trial for serious rape and sexual abuse against him is also in the case Maddie’s suspicious Germans begin in February. The trial against the 46-year-old will begin on February 16, as the Braunschweig regional court announced. The Braunschweig public prosecutor’s office charged the man in October 2022.

He is accused of three counts of aggravated rape and two counts of child sexual abuse. He is said to have committed the crimes between the end of December 2000 and June 2017 in Portugal, where the then three-year-old British girl Madeleine McCann disappeared from an apartment complex in May 2007. The man is suspected of murder in the Maddie case.

The investigation into her disappearance continues regardless of the current charges, as prosecutors have already emphasized several times. The German investigators are convinced that Christian B., who has a criminal record, kidnapped and killed the girl. However, a body has not yet been found.
