A heavily armed man barricaded himself in his house for around 35 hours. In the end, the police find him dead in the attic. The public prosecutor’s office remains tight-lipped about the question of how the man died.

The cause of death of the man who armed himself at the weekend in his home in Vieritz a day and a half before the The police had holed up remains unclear.

The man’s body was autopsied on Sunday and there were initial findings, said the spokesman for the Potsdam public prosecutor’s office, Christian-AlexanderNeu. However, it has not yet been conclusively clarified whether the man killed himself or was fatally hit by a police weapon. The man was found dead in the attic at the end of the operation on Sunday night.

Several exchanges of fire with the police

The man exchanged fire several times with the police during the large-scale operation in Vieritz on Friday and Saturday. The police wanted to enforce a court order in the village in Brandenburg, which belongs to the municipality of Milower Land, and hand over a child to the youth welfare office. Special police units were also involved due to possible endangerment of children’s welfare. But it was not possible to get the child out of the house. Two men barricaded themselves there, and the child and his mother were also in the house.

One of the men was arrested on Friday evening and taken into custody at the Wriezen Correctional Facility. He is accused of possessing a significant amount of cannabis and carrying dangerous items, said NEUEN. These should be weapons capable of firing. “But this still needs to be investigated,” emphasized the public prosecutor.

Weapons and a hand grenade found in the house

The mother and child were then able to leave the house unharmed on Saturday night. The child was handed over to the youth welfare office. The public prosecutor’s office did not want to comment further on the child’s gender or age.

The investigators currently do not want to provide any information about those involved or the background to the crime. However, according to police, a variety of weapons were found on the premises and in the house, including a hand grenade. The house was still cordoned off. Investigators searched the property and secured evidence. In the afternoon it was seen on site that emergency services were carrying several boxes of weapons and a crossbow out of the building.
