Shortly before midnight, shots were fired in a troubled part of Kiel. A little later, a man from Gaarden is dead. A 23-year-old allegedly shot the man. The search for the man is ongoing.

After the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man in a problem-ridden district of Kiel, the police are looking for a 23-year-old. The native of Kiel is strongly suspected of having killed the 31-year-old with several shots shortly before midnight in the Gaarden district on Monday evening, the public prosecutor’s office in Kiel and the police department announced on Tuesday.

Since the whereabouts of the 23-year-old from Kiel are not known, the district court has now decided to publicly search for him. The public prosecutor’s office also offered a reward of 3,000 euros for information that led to the arrest of the perpetrator. Anyone who sees the suspect should immediately call the police on 110.

Under no circumstances should the 23-year-old be addressed directly, since it cannot be ruled out that the suspect known to the police is carrying a firearm. In addition, according to the investigators, the man does not pose a danger to the public.

Shots are fired in public

According to previous knowledge, the perpetrator shot the 31-year-old in public in a densely populated residential area. A police spokesman said he pulled the trigger several times. The man died in hospital despite immediate attempts at resuscitation. According to the information, the 31-year-old dead man comes from the Gaarden district of Kiel, which is considered a problem area with a high crime rate.

The background to the case is still unclear, said the spokesman. For tactical reasons, the police and the public prosecutor’s office did not want to disclose more information about the homicide and other details about the victim. The body should be examined by coroners on Tuesday. In addition, the publicly accessible crime scene was searched by several police units in the afternoon for possible evidence, as the spokesman said.
