Crazy scene in Northern Ireland: After conceding a goal, a goalkeeper was thrown off the pitch after attacking his own team-mate.
A crazy scene happened in the Northern Irish first division: After conceding a goal, Glentoran’s goalkeeper Aaron McCarey was thrown off the pitch after attacking a team-mate.
In the game against Coleraine, Glentoran conceded the 2-2 equalizer in the 80th minute after a nice solo. Previously, Bobby Burns had lost the ball in the forward movement.
Coach reassures: “Everyone understands”
It was probably this fact that annoyed Keeper McCarey. After Cathair Friel had inserted to 2-2, McCarey jumped up and stormed towards Burns, grabbed him by the neck and pushed him to the ground.
Then he tried to straighten his teammate again, but this rolled over in pain. McCarey then saw the red card. Glentoran coach Mick McDermott didn’t want to attach too much importance to the crazy scene after the game. “Aaron gets it, Bobby gets it, everyone gets it,” he said.
Something similar happened in the Bundesliga at BVB 18 years ago. At that time, goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, who had already been warned, saw the yellow-red card in the Revierderby after he stormed his teammate Marcio Amoros after an offside goal by FC Schalke 04 and attacked them hard.
