Craig Taborn and Marco Mezquida: Outstanding jazz pianists in the Unterfahrt – Munich

Two of the most important pianists of international jazz present themselves in the Underpass the handle in his hand. First of all, Craig Taborn from Detroit will be presenting solo on Tuesday. The 53-year-old has been one of the most daring representatives of his profession for three decades. He became known alongside saxophonist James Carter, after which he played primarily with progressive and experimental like-minded people such as Mat Maneri, Roscoe Mitchell, Gerald Cleaver, Dave Binney, Tim Berne and Chris Potter before concentrating on his own projects. Since 2011, his albums have been released primarily on the Munich label ECM, and the most recently released “Shadow Plays” there is also a solo recording.

Piano music of a completely different kind, more indebted to European impressionism, often of magical, pure beauty, will be heard the next day by the Spaniard Marco Mezquida, the last winner of the BMW Welt Jazz Awards in 2022. This concert is of course already sold out.
