Covid – Omicron: the BA.2 wave already on the decline in several countries, imminent end in France?

While contaminations continue to grow in France in recent days, some countries have already passed the peak of this wave linked to the BA.2 sub-variant.

Majority since the beginning of March, the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron continues to circulate in France. Thus, more than 100,000 new daily cases have been recorded on average over seven days in the country. A certainly rapid rise but which could also quickly be stopped if we look at what is happening in neighboring countries.

Switzerland, Netherlands, Germany…

In Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria, contamination is now on a downward trend. The “mini-wave” caused by BA.2 in these countries even seems to have been on the decline for almost a week. According to data from the Our World in Data site, the rebound caused by this sub-variant will have lasted about three weeks in the aforementioned countries. We also observe that the epidemic seems to be marking time in the United Kingdom.

In the graph below, the number of cases on a daily average over seven days is related to the population, in this case it is about contaminations per million inhabitants.

The peak in a few days?

If we project these data on France, the decline in cases, which have been increasing since March 4, would therefore be imminent. A perspective that corresponds to the model mentioned by the Minister of Health recently. Olivier Véran predicted a peak in contamination at the end of the month.
