Covid-19 – EU wants fewer vaccines – economy

According to an insider, the EU Commission is negotiating an adjustment of the contracts with Pfizer and Biontech due to the large stocks of corona vaccines. Discussions are under way on buying fewer than the 500 million Covid-19 vaccine doses that the EU has to buy under the previous contract this year, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters news agency. A higher price is being discussed for this. An extension of the delivery period, possibly until the second half of 2024, is also being discussed. As the corona pandemic subsides, there is an oversupply of Covid-19 vaccines worldwide. In the EU, most residents who wished to be vaccinated have received primary and booster vaccinations. The demand for further vaccinations is low. In November, the EU medicines agency said the uptake of booster shots had been disappointing.
