Court confirms date in Traunstein abuse trial – Bavaria

In the civil case against the Archdiocese of Munich for compensation for a person affected by abuse, the Traunstein Regional Court has confirmed the date for the oral hearing on January 10th. The plaintiff will be heard personally at this appointment, it was said. Because heirs of the late Pope Benedict XIV still could not be identified, the civil declaratory action in this case remains suspended, the court announced.

A psychiatric report ordered by the court should be available at the hearing in early January. It is intended to clarify whether the act of abuse suffered by the plaintiff is the cause of the plaintiff’s mental disorder and his alcohol and drug addiction. The archdiocese had asked for the lawsuit to be dismissed at a hearing in June. The person affected is demanding 300,000 euros in compensation from the archdiocese.

In June 2022, Andreas P., a victim of the abuser and former priest Peter H., filed a declaratory judgment action at the Traunstein regional court – among other things against the archdiocese and also against the former and now deceased Pope Benedict XVI.
