Couple end up in hospital after eating ‘red with white dots’ mushrooms

Eating wild mushrooms can be dangerous if you don’t know how to recognize them. A couple from Côtes-d’Armor had the painful experience of it, Friday evening, in Loudéac, reports West France. Invited to dinner with friends, the 44-year-old man and his 37-year-old girlfriend were vomiting and convulsing when they got home. They were taken care of by the emergency services and transported to the Noyal-Pontivy hospital center (Morbihan).

In front of the gendarmes, they explained that they had eaten “red with white dots” mushrooms during the meal. It’s a safe bet that they consumed fly agaric mushrooms, a very toxic mushroom. The couple who had invited the victims was also heard by the gendarmes. The man also reportedly felt mildly unwell after the guests left but did not suffer any serious symptoms.
