They are good at hypocrisy. They give the selfless protector and pretend to save their countries from ruin. But in fact they turn out to be princes of darkness, dictators in uniform who keep millions of people in bondage. Conditions seem favorable for power-hungry generals. There have been five coups in the past year alone, four of them in Africa. The UN Secretary General has already lamented an “epidemic of Coup d’Etats”. The picture of the contagion is skewed because every coup has its own story. Nevertheless, the accumulation of cases seems threatening, especially since the international community shows little effort to curb the tyranny.
