Cough: Expert explains why many remedies are of little use

You often have to deal with a cough for weeks, even though you otherwise feel better. The general practitioner Dr. Sabine Gehrke-Beck from the Berlin Charité explains what helps – and why coughs are not so easy to treat.

Miss Dr. Gehrke-Beck, winter is almost over, but it still feels like you’re coughing everywhere and constantly. What advice do you have for those who are annoyed because their cough just won’t go away?
Above all, I recommend patience – and less medication. Unfortunately, coughs usually last longer than a week. Two, three or even four weeks are still normal.
