Deodorant, mascara, body milk – Stiftung Warentest names good drugstore products at reasonable prices

Food, gas or oil – prices are rising in many areas. Good news for consumers: they don’t have to dig deep into their pockets to get good quality wet razors, body milk or mouthwash.
When looking at the receipt, consumers have probably noticed a significant price increase in recent months. However, cosmetics such as deodorant or body milk are indispensable. Stiftung Warentest has re-examined the price and ingredients of cosmetic and hygiene items with good test results from the last three years.
The testers collected the current prices in June and July 2022 and compared them with the earlier ones. The result: Individual products are a few cents cheaper, many a few cents more expensive. The price of some products has remained stable. There was a significant price increase for three electric toothbrushes, two men’s shavers and a mascara. However, Stiftung Warentest reports that these products are still cheap compared to the competition. The product testers listed a total of 24 body care products that are of good quality and inexpensive at the same time.
Fighting the smell of sweat does not have to be expensive
According to the Federal Statistical Office, the price of deodorants has increased by 5.3 percent compared to last year. The deodorant roller from Lidl’s own brand “Cien Natural Minerals with Aloe Vera Antiperspirant” has become a few cents cheaper. It scored “2.1” in the test and 50 milliliters cost 50 cents.
Aldi’s own brand of body milk is cheap at 95 cents for 500 milliliters. “Lacura Body Milk Classic Dry Skin” was rated “good” in the last test by the product testers. A tip: Large packs are often cheaper than small tubes. A plus for the environment – they usually also have a better ecological balance.
Electric toothbrush for less than 20 euros
Anyone who wants to apply mascara from Rossmann can do so for just €3.50. “Rival de Loop Ultimate Volume Fake Lashes Mascara” received a “2.3” in the test.
An electric toothbrush does not have to cost a three-digit amount to remove dirt and plaque from your teeth. For 16 euros there are already well rated toothbrushes. At Müller you get the “Sensident battery toothbrush Perfect Clean Professional” for the price. The replaceable heads are usually cheaper for no-name toothbrushes than for branded products.
For men who want to keep their face smooth with a wet shave, the “Wilkinson Sword Protector 3” is the right choice. It received the grade “2.5” and costs 3.50 euros. Attention: When comparing prices, always pay attention to cheap replacement blades.
Consumers can find a good mouthwash for as little as 75 cents at Kaufland. The “Bevola Mint Mouthwash” contains 500 milliliters. Rossmann’s “Prokudent tooth & gum mouthwash” mouthwash has become 20 cents more expensive – compared to the last investigation by Stiftung Warentest in early 2021.
