Söder shows willingness to implement partial vaccination

In the dispute over compulsory vaccination for nursing homes and clinics, Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder has signaled his will to implement it. When asked if he was willing to do this, he told the “Rheinische Post”: “Sure, we want that and we also comply with federal law.” But the regulation must be “reasonable and practicable to implement”. Otherwise there will quickly be a care problem and trust in the state will erode. In the past few weeks, the traffic light government has “lost a lot of trust,” criticized the CSU leader. “A reliable and predictable strategy for dealing with the omicron variant” is missing.

Just a few days before the next federal-state consultations, Söder is also calling for comprehensive easing of the corona restrictions in retail, gastronomy, sports and culture. “Our goal in the caution team has always been to prevent the healthcare system from being overloaded and thus save lives. That is and will remain the top benchmark. Science tells us: Omicron is 90 percent less aggressive. We not only have to do the virological, but also see the psychological and socio-economic dimension of the pandemic: team caution yes, but not team stubborn,” says Söder of the Düsseldorfer “Rheinische Post”.
