General practitioners advocate a planned move away from incidence

The General Practitioner Association supports the federal government’s plans to no longer link the restrictions in public life to the corona incidence alone. “The assessment of the infection process should have long since included more aspects than just the incidence,” said the chairman of the association, Ulrich Weigeldt, of the “Rheinische Post”. “The planned consideration of the hospitalization rate is therefore a correct first step, and it was high time for that.” It is about mapping the burden on the health system. “This is moderate at the moment and it is mainly caused by people who are not vaccinated.”

Patient protector: Lack of willingness to vaccinate in elderly care

In view of the fourth corona wave, patient advocates complain that vaccination protection is still incomplete for employees in nursing homes and care services. “The willingness to vaccinate among staff in geriatric care is sometimes not as high as it should be,” says Eugen Brysch, board member of the German Foundation for Patient Protection, the newspapers of the Funke media group. This affects both stationary facilities and mobile care services. It seems to be different in nursing. The willingness to vaccinate is higher here. A job-specific vaccination requirement is not the right answer to vaccination gaps. “In a shortage occupation like caring for the elderly, such a duty would be more like an act of desperation and would be counterproductive.”
