RKI reports 546 new infections – the incidence rises to 10.3
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports 546 new positive tests. That is 222 more than on Monday a week ago, when 324 new infections were reported. The seven-day incidence continues to rise to 10.3 from 10.0 the previous day. The value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants have been infected with the corona virus in the past seven days. Another person died related to the virus. This increases the number of reported deaths to 91,363 within 24 hours. In total, more than 3.7 million corona tests have so far been positive in Germany. The Monday values are usually less meaningful than those on other days of the week because not all health authorities transmit their data to the RKI on the weekend and are less tested.

Two thirds of the Japanese have doubts about safe games
Four days before the Tokyo Olympics open, a survey shows that more than two-thirds of Japanese do not believe in corona-safe games. 68 percent of those surveyed expressed doubts about the Olympic organizers’ ability to prevent outbreaks, reports the Asahi newspaper. Almost all corona restrictions in England lifted
In England, most of the corona restrictions were lifted on Monday despite the rising number of corona infections. According to government information, the mask requirement and distance rules are no longer required. In addition, discotheques are allowed to reopen, theaters and sports stadiums can occupy all seats. The recommendation to work from home is also repealed. Exceptions apply in London, where the mask requirement remains in place in local transport. The government of Prime Minister Boris Johnson justified the controversial opening step with the high vaccination rate in the country. The easing is highly controversial in the UK. The opposition accuses the government of ruthlessness, and scientists fear another large corona wave.
