The confusion of data, which has given the district of Munich too high incidence values since last week, has not yet been completely cleared up; this Friday, however, it will take care of itself. Then the last of the 26 unresolved cases that were assigned to the district automatically fall off the bill after seven days. But that still doesn’t solve the problem.
Jörg Spennemann, the head of the health division in the district office, clearly sees the blame on the State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) and the Helmholtz Center, which developed the Sormas reporting software. “It happened what we had feared with the changeover in May,” he said at a press conference on Thursday. “We were told they were still checking.”
On Thursday morning, the seven-day incidence had fallen back to 7.7 after skyrocketing last week to above 20. Three new cases have been added since Wednesday, there are currently no cases of infection in the care facilities and asylum seekers’ accommodation. However, the corona variants are also spreading in the district.
Since Thursday there have been five new confirmed cases of the beta mutant from South Africa, three of the Brazilian gamma and seven of the Indian Delta variant. The delta mutant in particular worries those responsible in the district administration. There are currently 36 suspected cases of the Indian Corona version. Health department manager Gerhard Schmid assumes that this highly contagious variant will continue to spread and that the infection process will also dominate in the Munich district in autumn.
A childcare facility is currently affected by Delta. With all infections with mutants – with the exception of the alpha variant from Great Britain – all contact persons have to be in quarantine for two weeks, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated or have recovered. Free testing is also not possible before the 14 days have expired. The second immunization is the decisive protection against infection with the Delta variant.
With the vaccinations, things should go faster now. According to Ines Neupert, who is responsible for the vaccination centers in the health department, the delivery of vaccines is increasing significantly. This week 13,790 doses are expected, the next 13,628. Initial vaccinations have been taking place again since last Wednesday, and priority group 3 is currently being vaccinated in the centers. In addition, the district receives a special delivery to Moderna-Vakzin, because it is one of the regions with a low density of doctors and thus lags behind other districts.
