Like the “Mail on Sunday” now wants to know, the 74-year-old is said to have asked the Archbishop of Canterbury to reach an agreement between his two quarreling sons so that Harry can attend the coronation.
King Charles III should create incentives to come
The British monarch is said to have asked Justin Welby (67), who will perform the coronation in London’s Westminster Abbey, to eliminate tensions between Prince William (40) and Prince Harry in the run-up to the celebrations in May. Unspecified sources close to the archbishop’s residence are said to have explained this to the newspaper.
Charles is said to be convinced that Harry and Meghan’s absence from the coronation would be a greater distraction than their presence. That’s why he’s said to be willing to make concessions. In exchange for their coming, the 74-year-old monarch is open to offering them a place of honor in the church or an informal assurance that Harry can keep his title, sources told Mail on Sunday.
Difficult negotiations?
Prince William, on the other hand, is said to fear that the couple could overshadow the event. Therefore, according to insiders, he should want to keep Harry and Meghan away. “The family is divided and all indications are that Harry is being advised not to accept anything and to ‘play for time’ until the last minute, making negotiations with him very difficult,” an anonymous insider told the paper. The palace therefore declined to comment. According to a report by the “Independent”, there should be an invitation from the royal family, but at least in the palace it is expected that Harry and Meghan will stay away from the coronation and “find a reason not to come”.
The two caused a stir with both the Netflix documentary “Harry & Meghan” and Harry’s biography “Reserve” (original title: “Spare”). So far, King Charles has not responded publicly. But that could soon change: as part of the coronation coverage on May 6, the BBC is said to be planning a report on the king, in which his life and his plans for the nation as monarch will be discussed. As part of this, he is said to have been offered a television interview. As the “Mirror” further reports, according to insiders, Charles should think about the offer.
