Corona virus in Munich: This is the corona situation in the city – Munich

The corona virus is still circulating among the people of Munich – but at a much lower level than in previous years. In the past week, a total of 98 people in the city have officially contracted the virus. This is announced by the Munich Health Department with reference to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). In the week before, there were 101 infections according to the city. However, the figures for Saturday and Sunday are not included here, because no figures are transmitted at the weekend.

In the long term, a downward trend can be observed: the infection curve has been flat for a long time, and there was a small upward rash at the beginning of August. This comes from data from the State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL), which continues to keep records of the development of corona cases, but at state and district level. 201 of 607 cases in the week before last were in the district of Upper Bavaria, in which Munich is located. That was 14 more than the week before.

According to the Corona Pandemic Radar of the Federal Ministry of Health, the seven-day incidence for Bavaria on Sunday was five. This is the number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over a seven-day period. For the city of Munich, the health department reports a current seven-day incidence of 6.5 with reference to RKI data.

There is no question of a wave of infections compared to previous years: According to the RKI, 2837 people in Munich were officially infected with the corona virus in the same reporting week in 2022, more than four times as many as in all of Bavaria this year.

The examinations of the wastewater for viral load by the Bay-VOC network, in which various virological institutes of the Bavarian university clinics have joined forces, also give a rather reassuring picture: According to the wastewater monitoring, the current trend in Munich is even falling. The last time there was a real high was in March. The small hill in August, on the other hand, could already be read in mid-July – a little earlier than in the registration numbers. In general, it can be assumed that not all coronavirus cases will be recorded, since some sufferers may not obtain confirmation from a test center after a positive self-test – and so the infection is not reported to an authority at all.

In the Munich Clinic, the urban clinic network with five locations, which looks after the majority of inpatient corona cases in Munich, there is currently no upward or downward trend, as the spokeswoman said on request. The number of Covid 19 patients in August was in the single digits, they say. According to the Munich Clinic, it is currently caring for six patients in connection with Covid-19, one of whom is in the intensive care unit.
