The number of new infections continues to rise: According to the RKI, the incidence is now 1526.8 – 50 more deaths were also reported. Bavaria’s Prime Minister Söder criticizes the plans of the traffic light coalition.
The nationwide seven-day incidence reported by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) exceeded the threshold of 1500 for the first time. The RKI gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week in the morning at 1526.8. For comparison: the day before the value was 1496.0. A week ago, the nationwide incidence was 1231.1 (previous month: 1466.5).
The health authorities in Germany reported 146,607 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is evident from numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5 a.m. A week ago there were 116,889 infections. Experts assume a high number of cases that are not recorded in the RKI data. One reason is the limited capacity of health authorities, for example, and contacts are often only tracked to a limited extent.
50 more deaths
According to the new information, 50 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 51 deaths. The number of people who died from or involved a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 125,571.
The RKI has counted 17,141,351 infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected. The RKI gave the number of recovered people in the morning as 13,349,900.
The number of corona-infected patients who came to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 7.0 according to the RKI on Friday (Thursday: 6.74). Among them are many people with a positive corona test who have another main illness. The value is not reported on weekends.
Söder criticizes the traffic light coalition
The criticism of the revised Infection Protection Act of the federal government does not stop. Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder criticized the fact that Germany was exposed to new virus variants without protection. The draft of the traffic light has real gaps and weaknesses, Söder told the “Bild am Sonntag”. “Basically, there are no longer any real protective measures. This means that we are defenseless and defenseless against new mutations in the fall. For example, largely omitting the mask is premature and can quickly lead to a so-called contamination at school, for example.”
Söder particularly criticized Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach. “The Federal Minister of Health is expecting new waves, and the traffic light will abolish all measures at the same time,” he said, referring to the red-green-yellow federal government. “If the traffic light has its way, Corona will be history next week. But that’s not the reality.” At the beginning of February, Söder vehemently pushed for easing.
