The new corona quarantine rules can now come into force. After the Bundestag, the Bundesrat also approved a corresponding ordinance. Among other things, boosted contact persons of infected people no longer have to be in quarantine.
The new quarantine rules for corona infected people and contact persons can come into force. After the Bundestag, the Bundesrat also approved an ordinance that creates a legal framework for this.
The regulation defines the basic exceptions to quarantine and isolation due to vaccination or recovery. The new quarantine and isolation rules must now be implemented by state regulations, which are already in preparation.
According to the new rules, infected people and their contact persons only have to be in isolation or quarantine for ten days. Previously 14 days was usual. Those affected should be able to test themselves freely after seven days.
No quarantine for boosted contacts
Contact persons who have already received a booster vaccination or who have been fully vaccinated or recovered within the past three months no longer have to be in quarantine. Exceptional rules apply to children, young people and employees in the healthcare sector.
The shorter quarantine times are intended to ensure that important supply areas do not collapse even if the number of infections increases sharply.

Lauterbach: Pandemic at “interface”
In his speech in the Bundesrat, Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach praised the cooperation between the federal and state governments during the pandemic. The implementation of the joint resolutions worked well “on the whole”, emphasized the Minister of Health. So far, Germany has come through the pandemic better than countries with a comparable age structure.
He further said that the pandemic had arrived at an “intersection”. You’re in your third year. This raises the question of whether it will be possible to defuse the pandemic in such a way that an endemic situation with only sporadic outbreaks and few deaths is reached – or whether this opportunity will be missed. “We have to seize this opportunity and we have the means to do so. We have the means to largely end the pandemic in Germany this year.”

Another call for vaccinations
Lauterbach again appealed to all citizens who are not yet protected to be vaccinated or boosted. “If we all claimed that we didn’t need it or that we knew better or didn’t want to participate or that we had a different understanding of the state, then we would end up in chaos.” Therefore he is also in favor of the general obligation to vaccinate.
