Denmark had recently lifted all corona protective measures. Now the new infections are increasing. The government is tightening the measures. A shutdown is already necessary in the Netherlands.

The number of new corona infections in the Netherlands rose to over 16,000 on Thursday and has thus reached a high. Never before during this pandemic have so many new corona cases been reported within one day, as the Reich Institute for Health and Environment RIVM announced. The number of corona patients is also increasing. The country is thus heading for a new partial lockdown. The Dutch media reported on Friday, citing government circles. A limited shutdown of three weeks should begin on Saturday, restaurants and most shops would then have to close at 7 p.m.

The caretaker government wants to decide on the new measures on Friday. A press conference has been announced for the evening. Since the day before, the government has been advising in the Catshuis, the official residence of Prime Minister Mark Rutte. A decision is also to be taken on the introduction of the 2G rule for restaurants and culture and sport.

Precarious situation in the intensive care units

According to media information, citizens should only receive a maximum of four visitors at home. Sports competitions should take place without an audience. Cinemas and theaters should be allowed to continue to be used with proof of vaccination or a negative corona test. The 7-day incidence recently rose to more than 500 – about twice as high as in Germany.

The number of patients in hospitals and deaths are also increasing. On Thursday there were around 1,700 Covid sufferers in the hospitals. The situation, especially in intensive care units, is so precarious that hospitals are already warning of the emergency. In the past seven days, an average of 24 people died as a result of Covid, in the previous week there were an average of 18 deaths a day.

Denmark is also tightening its protective measures

After two months without any restrictions in the country, isolated corona measures apply again in Denmark. Since Friday, you have to show your Corona passport again at larger events such as concerts and trade fairs as well as in the restaurant, in the pub or in the discotheque. This allows you to show in Germany’s northernmost neighboring country that you have been vaccinated, recovered or tested negative for the coronavirus.

In view of high vaccination and low infection numbers, Denmark lifted all corona restrictions remaining in the country on September 10. In the past few weeks, however, the number of new infections has risen sharply, most recently the highest daily values of the entire year. For this reason, it was decided this week to designate Covid-19 again as a “socially critical disease” for an initial month. This is necessary so that the government can adopt restrictions such as showing the Corona passport without full parliamentary approval.
