The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports a record increase in new infections with 75,961 positive tests within 24 hours. The total number of corona deaths in Germany rises to over 100,000. The employers’ association is open to a general vaccination requirement. More in the live ticker.
I.According to official census, more than 100,000 people died with or from Covid-19 in Germany. The Robert Koch Institute gave the number on Thursday morning as 100,119. This reflects the status of the RKI dashboard at 3:47 a.m. The number of new corona infections transmitted within one day exceeded the threshold of 70,000 new infections for the first time.
According to the RKI, the health authorities reported 75,961 cases in 24 hours. Exactly one week ago there were 65,371 new infections recorded. The seven-day incidence was 419.7 – also a high since the beginning of the pandemic. For comparison: the previous day the value was 404.5, a week ago it was 336.9 (previous month: 110.1).
According to the new information, 351 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 264 deaths. The RKI has counted 5,573,756 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not recognized.
The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was given by the RKI on Wednesday as 5.74 (Tuesday: 5.60). The value plays an essential role in assessing the occurrence of the infection. If limit values 3, 6 and 9 are exceeded in the federal states, stricter measures to combat the pandemic can be imposed there.

03:31 am – Corona in prison – the boosting has started
The booster vaccinations against the corona virus for staff and inmates in the prisons in Rhineland-Palatinate have already started. So far, six people have been boosted in the correctional facilities, four employees and two prisoners, said the spokesman for the Ministry of Justice, Christoph Burmeister, in Mainz. Many of the total of around 2000 employees had the third injection against the coronavirus at the doctor or in one of the revived vaccination centers.

In view of the increasing number of corona infections, employer President Rainer Dulger is open to a general vaccination requirement. “We rely on dialogue and conviction. Therefore, a statutory vaccination is always only the second best solution. But it must not be excluded from the outset, ”says Dulger of the newspaper“ Rheinische Post ”. However, the economy cannot make this decision for politicians.
